St. Augustine Roman Catholic church is a landmarked 1888 Gothic Revival Style church in Park Slope Brooklyn. The critical scope of work included work related to building envelope repair and stabilization of exterior elements in order to maintain congregation and pedestrian safety. The scope of work included replacement of custom and irregular masonry units, new copper roof, and stained-glass window stabilization.
Levien & Company was engaged to provide management of the first phase of renovation, which was to address the most critical needs of the church before embarking on a future more comprehensive restoration. As there was not a lead architect or general contractor, the project required that L&C closely work with the team of specialty consultants and contractors on the details of design and construction in order to ensure successful completion.
Some of the challenges of the project included replacing custom exterior masonry units during winter months while protecting the buildings interior from outside elements as well as the removal and painstaking restoration of the original copper statue.
